Moon (2009) Movie Review

Saw the movie “Moon” (2009) this evening. It is actually unbelievable that in amongst the 100 Harry Potter screenings there was at least some space for another movie at the cineplex.A very “different” type of film. Not your usual science fiction movie. Although there is some CGI and effects do not expect action or explosions large enough to destroy a plane. This is a science fiction which almost seems like a homage to 2001:A Space Oddessy and its often forgotten sequel 2010. A movie which mostly contains just a single actor. There is even a HAL-like computer voiced by Kevin Spacey (good choice!).

Although I thought the movie took a little while to get going (for at least 45 minutes into it you don’t really get what’s going to happen) it was quite captivating to see how things would pan out. A bit of a weird story you could conclude but certainly the type of film I like to see. The setting is someway into the future where the moon is used to “harvast” energy. The setting seems plausible I’d say.

A good movie in my opinion and certainly worth seeing if you like science fiction movies to be more intriguing rather than explosive and full of action.

Interesting that the movie is released shortly after the 40th anniversary of the first Lunar landing.

It is the best Sci-Fi movie I’ve seen at the cinema this year after Star Trek.

8/10
