Taking of Pelhalm 123 (2009) Film Review

Back from seeing the remake of an old seventies classic: The Taking of Pelhalm 123 (must say I never watched the whole original film, but have seen bits). This version starring Denzel Washington (very good performance) and John Travolta (Perhaps a bit too theatrical early on). A good film by Tony Scott, which includes his trademark wacky credits intro, fast paced action, clever quick cuts and tense atmosphere.

I do think however they played it “safe” a bit by not trying something a bit more daring with the story lines. Some minor things could be interpreted as a bit “dumb” I am guessing, such as the fact that there are clearly still trains running in the Manhatten subway system well after the hostage situation becomes clear to authorities. I would imagine they would even try to seal off the whole of Manhatten itself if such a situation would arise. Also the getting money to the Transport office scene seems a bit over the top!

However it is a good movie which most should enjoy. A movie I would certainly recommend to the average movie/action flick goer.

Well worth the visit.
