Anvil – The Story of Anvil (2009) Film Review

| A fantastic documentary about the long forgotten Metal Rock band Anvil. They had decent success in the mid 80s after which they completely fell off the music radar. This movie gives a great insight into the two main members of Anvil, trying to continue with the band despites many setbacks.
In the film you see that the band members have normal day jobs, go on a unsuccessful tour in Europe and cannot get a break with any record company for recording their next album forcing them to seek financial backing elsewhere. It is a great feel good movie which focuses not so much on the band’s music but more on what happens to them in their daily lives, making it quite accessible for a large audience to enjoy. There are tears and laughter on the way which makes for a good movie. It is interesting that since the movie’s release Anvil have actually gained a fair bit of popularity and are currently supporting ACDC on their North American tour. Good stuff, even if a little on the short side at 90 minutes. 8/10 |
