Lost Highway: A Tribute To Bruce Springsteen
2008

This album consists of 10 Bruce Springsteen Covers.

Back in 2000 I recorded a bunch of Bruce Springsteen covers and I really enjoyed doing this. None of these songs I thought sounded like I wanted my definitive versions of them to sound so I wanted to go back and rerecord many of them. Since then of course Springsteen has been writing and recording new stuff so I have also recorded some covers of his more recent material, notably "The Rising", "How can a Poor Man..." and "My City of Ruins".

As Springsteen's song catalogue is so vast I can only consider this as volume 1 out of a possible many of my cover albums of Bruce Springsteen's excellent songs.

Tracklisting

1. Racing in the Street
2. How can a Poor Man stand such Times and Live?
3. For You
4. The Rising
5. Born to Run
6. No Surrender
7. This Hard Land
8. Stolen Car
9. My City of Ruins
10. The Promise

Nothing but a Merciless Night II

My version of Jim Steinman's "Left in the Dark" appeared on the Jim Steinman Fan Appericiation album: "Nothing but a Merciless Night II" (Track 12 on disc 1).

This was the original liner note which accompanied the song on the album:

I chose this song as I love Jim's original orchestral arrangement. Therefore I found my recording based on his original vision a perfect tribute to him. I've always found subsequent versions to sound inferior. Even though Jim's voice is probably not the best out there I found the emotion in his voice very convincing and the song certainly touched me and is one of my favourites. I love the choral introduction in Cecilia Vennerster's cover therefore I included this on my recording instead of the spoken word intro. All instruments have been played by myself and this was the first song I played bass guitar on.

Tracklisting

12. Left in The Dark

This 7 track album contains material which I recorded during 2005 and 2006. I never mastered the tracks or uploaded except for my cover of "A Date With Destiny", Gregg Fulkerson's fanastic "Thunder Road"-esque effort. I thought all the other stuff had been lost, certainly never realised how complete these recordings were which was a nice surprise when I found them on my old computer.

The album starts with one of the very few instrumental pieces of music I have ever written. It's kinda inspired by the music in "Armageddon". The 2nd track is a cover of John Hiat's excellent "Have a Little Faith in Me", probably one of the strongest efforts on the album I guess.

Also included on the album are two Jim Steinman covers; "What part of my body hurts the most" (never officially released, though a great song) and "More than you Deserve". The latter I think being more impressive. Finally I've also included my versions of Bob Seger's "Hollywood Nights" and Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Who'll Stop the Rain".

2. Have a Little Faith in Me
3. What Part of My Body Hurts The Most?

On Saturday 15th of Februrary 2003 I played an acoustic gig at The Postgraduate Club at the University of Glasgow. I played for about half an hour, performing mainly songs from Bruce Springsteen. I also played my own song "Traffic Cone Girl", which I'd written about a year before.

This album contains the full recording of that show plus a number of bonus demo tracks (mostly covers again) inluding "Let it Rain" from Amanda Marshall, "Every River" by Runrig and "The Saga begins" by "Weird" Al Yankovic (parady on Star Wars The Phantom Menace / "American Pie"). The demo tracks were recorded during March 2002.

Another Universe

This is quite an experimental album; completely instrumental with most of the tracks being influenced by 90s based dance, mostly the trance genre, which I quite like. You can hear this in "Dawn of The Day", "Touched by a Saturn" and "The Escape". Other tracks have a more mellow, almost soundtrack approach.
I wrote the music and recorded this album during my Christmas holiday break in December 2002 / January 2003 while I was studying IT. I was doing a lot of Java programming in those days hence the title "Java Blues", which is quite a mellow instrumental build up track. I've always been quite influenced by Vangelis, which is probably quite apparent from that track.

I think this music is quite a detour from most of the stuff I've done before and since, however I think it will be an area I will be revisiting again.

This is a remastered version of the original album.

Tracklisting

1. Intro: Voyage to Another Universe
2. Dawn of The Day
3. Java Blues
4. Lightrays from Different Worlds
5. Touched by Saturn
6. Message from The Healer
7. The Escape
8. Outro: The Return Home

I wrote the songs for this album during the last few months of 2001. I then recorded the songs while I was at home at my parents house in The Netherlands for the Christmas holidays.

At this time I still had all my recording equipment there so I only had access to my gear for a short period. This meant that all the recordings would sound quite rough I guess.

Quite a few things I would like to improve on the songs which are the edgy vocals, the crap midi drums and the synth bass. However I am still quite happy with many of the songs and my favourite has to be "Angels can Fall". Hope you will enjoy!

Tracklisting

1. Rock in a Hard Place
2. Everything That Can't be Found
3. Out of the Rain
4. Angels Can Fall

8. Disappear in The Night
9. Only Rock and Roll for Her
10. I Will Get There
11. I Still Love You
12. The Last Dance
