List of Andrew's Gigs

Saturday 15th of February 2003: The Post Graduate Club, The University of Glasgow

Setlist
Darkness on the Edge of Town
Traffic Cone Girl
Summer of '69
The River
Waitin' on a Sunny Day
This Hard Land
Land of Hope and Dreams

Comment
This gig lasted around half an hour and it was the first time I played "Waitin' on a Sunny Day", another Springsteen tune. This was a talent night organised by the IT Society of the MScIT class at Glasgow uni. Great night, with great acts. I was very pleased to be part of it. I would have played longer if they let me! Especially “Traffic-Cone Girl” went down well. Recordings of all songs (with the exception of "Darkness on the Edge of Town") are available to listen to on this site.

Sunday 26th of May 2002: Jim’s Bar, Queen Margaret Union, Glasgow

Setlist
Traffic Cone Girl

Comment
Only second time I performed my new song. It went down particularly well I thought as most of the other acts appeared less lively.

Sunday 26th of May 2002: Whistler’s Mother, Byres Road, Glasgow

Setlist
This Hard Land
Blown' in the Wind

Comment
Another time I performed "This Hard Land" at Whistler’s. Second Bob Dylan song I did at Whistler's.

Sunday 5th of May 2002: Jim’s Bar, Queen Margaret Union, Glasgow

Setlist
Land of Hope and Dreams

Comment
This week only a performance at Jim’s as Whistler’s seemed a bit overcrowded to me, probably because of the Bank holiday the next day. This Springsteen song, which I had played at Whistler’s a couple of times was well received.

Sunday 28th of April 2002: Jim’s Bar, Queen Margaret Union, Glasgow

Setlist
Summer of '69

Comment
The Bryan Adams song went down well with the union crowd.

Sunday 28th of April 2002: Whistler’s Mother, Byres Road, Glasgow

Setlist
Growin' Up
Summer of '69

Comment
The first song is an old song by Bruce Springsteen. Ironically it was first recorded by Bruce when also he was 22, same as my age at this time! The second song by Bryan Adams went down really well.

Sunday 21st of April 2002: Jim’s Bar, Queen Margaret Union, Glasgow

Setlist
This Hard Land

Comment
After closing time at Whistler’s (usually around 11 p.m.) this was the second gig at one of Glasgow University’s unions. It was around 1 a.m. that the song was played. It went down quite well I think.

Sunday 21st of April 2002: Whistler’s Mother, Byres Road, Glasgow

Setlist
Born to Run
Because I got High

Comment
The second song was the 2001 number 1 song from Afroman. I changed the lyrics a little bit and included a harmonica solo. Another funny song to do I thought.

Sunday 14th of April 2002: Whistler’s Mother, Byres Road, Glasgow

Setlist
Let it Rain
This Hard Land

Comment
Two of my favourite acoustic songs which I had played some weeks before.

Sunday 17th of March 2002: Whistler’s Mother, Byres Road, Glasgow

Setlist
Let it Rain
Land of Hope and Dreams

Comment
“Let it Rain”, the first song played on St. Patrick’s Day at Whistler’s is a song by Amanda Marshall. The second song was a repeat of Springsteen’s song from last week. The bar was very busy, obviously because of the Irish holiday. The second song went down particularly well, because of some true Springsteen fans, who were there.

Sunday 10th of March 2002: Whistler’s Mother, Byres Road, Glasgow

Setlist
Brown Eyed Girl
Land of Hope and Dreams

Comment
"Brown Eyed Girl" (by Van Morrison) was performed with Andrew McGregor singing backing vocals during the “sha la la”-bits. "Land of Hope and Dreams" was a relatively new Bruce Springsteen song at the time.

Sunday 3rd of March 2002: Whistler’s Mother, Byres Road, Glasgow

Setlist
Marie (put on that Black Dress)
Traffic Cone Girl

Comment
First time I performed some of my own songs. "Marie" was written in 2000 and I wrote "Traffic Cone Girl" just a few weeks before. That song is about a girl who goes around stealing traffic cones, obviously a student.

Sunday 24th of February 2002: Whistler’s Mother, Byres Road, Glasgow

Setlist
The Saga Begins

Comment
This was the “Weird” Al Yankovic version of "American Pie" from Don Mclean which contains hilarious lyrics telling the story of “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace”.

Sunday 10th of February 2002: Whistler’s Mother, Byres Road, Glasgow

Setlist
Knockin' on Heaven's Door
This Hard Land
Born to Run

Comment
First two songs performed early and Born to Run, which I messed up a bit, featured towards the end of the acoustic night. The first two songs did go down quite well. All songs featured harp-solos.

Sunday 3rd of February 2002: Whistler’s Mother, Byres Road, Glasgow

Setlist
The River
Every River

Comment
The River is a classic Springsteen song and one of my favourites, which works quite well acoustically I think. The second song was written by Runrig. Both songs were played on guitar and included mouth organ parts.

Sunday 27th of January 2002: Whistler’s Mother, Byres Road, Glasgow

Setlist
Darkness on the Edge of Town
Born to Run

Comment
Both songs performed acoustic on guitar and were similar to Bruce Springsteen’s acoustic versions of these songs (Darkness during Bruce’s 1993 tour and Born during Bruce’s 1988 tour). Here “Born to Run” included mouth organ intro and outro.
